Candidates Speeches

Megan Twitchell- President

Good morning students of A block American government, My names Megan Twitchell and I’m running to be the president of the United States.

Due to my personality, knowledge and experience I am the best candidate for President of the United States. I am very active in both my school and local community in many ways. During school I am a active member of Knights Against Hunger, was recently inducted in The National Honors Society, and play softball in the spring. Outside of school I volunteer on a regular basis and tend to help out the older women in my neighborhood. Based on experiences in politics I have been very involved for someone of my age. From opportunites with  Franklin Pierce University I have worked closely with Marlin Fitzwater, former press secretary for President Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush. Also I have spent time in Washington D.C., our nation's capitol with Senator Jeanne Shaheen and Congresswoman Annie Kuster. Personality wise I am a motivated and hardworking person who is is passionate about everything I do. As your president I promise to try my hardest to achieve everything I promise and make America a better place for everyone.

Today’s main issue is foreign policy At this point in our country's time maintaining good relations with other countries around the world is in our best interest.  Our current foreign policy involving many countries, specifically ones located in the middle east, needs to be improved if we plan to maintain peace among nations. Since the attacks on September 11, 2001 there has been an ongoing battle with terrorism across the globe. Because of this it is very important for nations to join together to help fight this war on terrorism. As President I promise to work closely and maintain good relations with all countries possible.

In America there are more than 500,000 people homeless currently, including veterans who have served for our country . To help with this issue, I plan to have more organizations set up, primarily to help homeless citizens or low class families. To do this we will set up donation services in both rural and urban areas and I will encourage any citizen that is able or willing to donate anything ranging from home furniture to clothing and to give volunteer time. As a nation we should work together to end this issues, as it is rampant in all communities in the country and affects us all in some way. As President, I will use my role as the leader to take this step and encourage everyone to give back and help out.

Civil and equal rights have become a very controversial topic in today's politics. As president it is my mission to make all lives equal in the United States. This nation should be a safe place for everyone to live, no matter what their race, gender, sexual orientation, or anything else that could make someone “different”. Everyone should feel protected and safe in their community and country and as president I will fight for every single person who does not.
Our Earth is the most important thing in our lives, for it is what provides everything we need to survive and without it we would not exist. Because our earth provides so much for us, we should treat it with respect and try out hardest to preserve its natural state. Sadly, we have not been doing that and the lifespan of the Earth is deteriorating because of this. In order to stop this, I will be initiating the Zero Sort Recycle act. This will make recycling mandatory across the nation in order to keep our country more clean and resourceful.
Education and the arts in school are vital for the success of today's young. All children should have the opportunity for education, and the resources to maintain themselves during that education. Currently, there has been a budget cut to Department of Education. The current budget in 2017 is 68.2 billion. The government has proposed that the budget be cut down by 13.8% and it has been proposed to be lowered to $59 million. In some of the schools this cut affects, the curriculum being drained from the money lost is the arts programs. This cannot be allowed. As President, I would raise the budget on the Department of Education, and encourage schools to implement more artistic/creative classes into the curriculum.
Overall, my personality, knowledge and experience make me the best candidate for the presidency. My leadership skills will help make this country and better place for all who live here, and my willingness to work with others will make sure that everyone's voice is heard. Vote Twitchell and Kelliher for the Presidency 2017 and you’ll learn that freedom, starts with you.

Kasey Kelliher- Vice President.

Hello, my name is Kasey Kelliher and I stand before you today to guide your decision to vote for me for Vice President of the United States.  I believe in every citizen’s individual freedoms and future.  I have faith in America growth to become a nation of equality, knowledge, and civility.  Mrs. Twitchell and I believe in a nation that maintains good relations and peace with foreign countries around the world, a nation that focuses more attention on organizations based on helping the lower class financially.  We believe to build an overpowering respect for women, race differences different economic statuses and disabilities, and hope to help our economic system through recycling items back for more, and we believe to grow a stronger education through raising the budget.  This country that we live in is capable of reaching it’s full potential with our help and the help of the people of America.  As I stand as not only a member of the democratic party, but as an American citizen wanting your vote so the two of us can move forth and pursue our ideas in America’s future.  As our former president, Barack Obama, once said , There's not a liberal America and a conservative America - there's the United States of America.”
